Overview

Nai Brother Chinese Sauerkraut Fish offers a vibrant and authentic taste of Chinese cuisine, nestled in Fairfax, VA. Specializing in sauerkraut fish—a beloved regional specialty—the restaurant stands out for its rich, tangy broths that balance sourness and spice with tender fish and other fresh ingredients. The signature sauerkraut fish soup showcases skillful preparation, delivering a depth of flavor that delightfully awakens the palate.

The dining experience here is casual and approachable, with a focus on quick service and ease of ordering, ideal for both busy professionals and families seeking comforting Chinese fare. The space is functional and straightforward, reflecting its role as a convenient stop for flavorful fast food rather than a fine-dining establishment.

Beyond sauerkraut fish, the menu features a variety of standout dishes such as the spicy fatty beef mala dry pot, a rich and numbing Sichuan-style offering, and delicate soup dumplings available with pork or black truffle fillings. The eatery also surprises with a secret menu devoted to Fuzhou specialties, including peanut noodles and traditional meatball soup—each evoking authentic home-style flavors that long-time patrons deeply appreciate.

Customer feedback highlights the generosity of portions and the authentic taste profile. While the broths are notably spicy and sour—an acquired taste for some—they remain well-executed and worth trying for those open to bold flavors. The freshness of ingredients like fish and shrimp is evident, though occasionally the strong seasoning can dominate the subtleties of the seafood’s natural flavor.

Nai Brother’s location in Fairfax makes it a convenient culinary gem outside of major metropolitan hubs, serving a diverse audience eager for genuine Chinese regional cuisine. Whether you are a seasoned fan of sauerkraut fish or curious to explore new textures and tastes, this restaurant offers a memorable, satisfying experience rooted in traditional Chinese cooking with a modern twist.

It was delicious and the woman at the counter was very nice. Added lotus root to the nai brother sauerkraut fish soup and it was so good; also recommend the grilled octopus skewers (they were spicy)

It's an acquired taste, Nai Brother cooks the sauerkraut fish well, very tender. However, the sourness and spiciness tend to overwhelm the main ingredients (fish, shrimp etc) so you can't tell how fresh the meat is. Worth trying to see whether this is your cup of tea. I prefer the Cantonese style which emphasize on ingredient freshness and less spiciness, or the Vietnamese pho with beef broth.

This is a chain that has locations all over New York. I'm glad there is a location close to me. It's my go to for sauerkraut fish soup. They also have a secret menu for Fuzhou cuisine like peanut noodles, Fuzhou wontons and meatball soup that are pretty close to what I remember from Fuzhou.

New place inside of the Great Wall market. They offer a variety of soup dishes. Their sauerkraut fish is worth a try. Their spicy beef is also good.

This is the best sauerkraut fish I’ve had at a food court. The flavor is fresh and authentic—better than what many local Chinese restaurants offer. Highly recommend!

This is a new Chinese restaurant for sliced fish fillets located inside the Great Wall Supermarket. We ordered the signature soup and a spicy dry pot. The price was reasonable and both the dry pot and soup were good. Seating is located in the food court. We arrived at noon on Saturday. A lot of seats were available. The menu is friendly for both solo and group dining. Rice comes with the Sauerkraut fish. Many people order takeout here as well.
